Aruba Tourism

Located off the coast of Venezuela in the south of Caribbean Islands, Aruba is a beautiful island country situated in the west of Lesser Antilles. Together with the Bonaire and Curacao islands, Aruba is referred as ABC islands, often called the ‘Dutch islands in the Caribbean’ or the Dutch Caribbean. Along with the Netherlands, Sint Maarten and Curacao, Aruba forms the four constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with its citizens sharing the Dutch nationality. 

Aruba was first inhabited by the Arawak Indians. In 1499, Spain explored Aruba, followed by the Netherlands claiming the islands in 1636. The British then ruled the islands for a brief period, after which the Dutch reclaimed their control in 1816. Aruba islands became an official part of the Netherlands Antilles in the year 1845. While the Dutch control Aruba’s foreign and defense affairs, the island government handles internal affairs like revenue, judiciary and civil services. 

More than 80% of the population follows Roman Catholicism, while the Aruba islands also has a small section of Protestants (8%), Hindus, Muslims, Jewish and Confucians. The official language of Aruba islands is Dutch, while other widely spoken languages include English, Spanish, Portuguese and Papiamento. The climate of Aruba islands is tropical and semi-arid, resulting in hot, sunny summers and mild winters.
