Turks and Caicos Islands Tourism

Located in the Atlantic Ocean, the Turks and the Caicos Islands offer the best of the Caribbean experience. The Islands are spread over 37 miles and include about 40 islets and cays. The Grand Turk and the Providenciales are the main islands of the group and are situated towards the southeast of Florida, USA. There are eight main islands in the Turks and Caicos Islands of which Grand Turk is the seat of government while the others are the part of the Caicos Islands.

The Taino and Lucayan tribes inhabited the islands for over 700 years before Christopher Columbus set foot on it in 1492. The Bermudans raked the Islands for the salt found here after the tribes had left it barren for years. The Islands saw a turbulent period where they were captured by the French and the Spanish for a period of time before Jamaica won its independence from Britain allowing Turks & Caicos to become a colony of the British Crown. The Islands are looked after by a Governor and it continues to be recognised as a British overseas territory.

The Turks and Caicos Islands experience arid and temperate climate making it a popular destination for tourists. Plenty of sunshine and cool breeze greet tourists on this island. Around 40,000 people reside on this group of islets which sees more than 2 million visitors every year.

Besides the White sand beaches, clear blue waters and the moderate climate, one of the world’s longest coral reefs and several diving spots act as divine magnets for tourists. Furthermore, there is much more to this island besides its heavenly beaches. The historic towns and villages give you an insight into its troubled past. The bird sanctuary French Cay, the underwater Columbus Landfall National Park and Caicos Conch Farm are the other major attractions of these legendarily isles.
