About Brazil Tourism

Easily the biggest countries in South America to attract the largest number of tourists, Brazil stands up like a gem. The beauty of the country is such that it just can’t be discarded from view. Brazil boasts of some of the most rocking beaches of the world. The sun shining on the soft sand, tanned skin of the local crowd, diving off the rocks to the sea or just sun bathing, the beaches just do not have any equal. The flora and fauna are as breath-taking as the majestic waterfalls and the timeless tropical islands. There were a large number of tribal territories that made up the country. But things changed with the coming of the first explorers, the first of whom was the Portuguese seafarer, Pedro Álvares Cabral, who came in 1500. Colonisation followed and lasted until 1808. Independence came in 1822, a parliament was set up, apart from constitutional monarchy. In 1889, Brazil became a presidential republic. As far as climate goes, Brazil has an equatorial climate that ensures that there is no dry season, ever, during the year. The country is geographically diverse with mountains, hills, plains and highlands making up the topography. Thanks to the colonial hangover, the prime language of this vibrant country is Portuguese. The language is also official, largely used in newspapers, television and radio. Brazilian Portuguese is another language that has evolved over the years with its own distinct identity. A cultural mix of regions and immigrants has ensured that there is a varied mix in the cuisine too. Pastries, salad, beef rice, fried potatoes and tapioca make up the motley lot. Roman Catholics make up 64% of the total population, Protestants have a 22% share; about 8% of the total lot do not follow any religion, the rest make up the remaining 6% with no prominent representation.
