The Dubai Tennis Championships also known as the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, is finally back in town! All stars of the current tennis world will congregate to fight for this coveted tournament, which is classified as ATP World Tour 500 and WTA Premier 5.

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships has earned a reputation as one of the major tennis tournaments in the world. Inaugurated in 1993, this prestigious tennis tournament is operated under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai.
Roger Federer is the current defending champion and holds the record for winning the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships seven times. He is the fan-favourite of Dubai’s local crowd and enjoys immense support. The reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, has successfully won the tournament four times. However, The Australian Open 2016 winner ended up on the receiving end last year against the Swiss legend in the final, going down in straight sets (6-3, 7-5). Spanish heartthrob Rafael Nadal also won the tournament in 2006 and will hope to resurrect his faltering career at the hard courts of Dubai’s iconic Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium. Andy Murry of Great Britain is also on the rise and will be a tough contender for the likes of the holy trinity of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic.
Meanwhile, Serena Williams, the current world number one in Women’s tennis, will go all out to add the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships to her long list of trophies. This is one trophy which still eludes the iconic American star. However, defending champion Simona Halep of Romania will be a tough contender to maneuver, along with current Australian Open 2016 ladies champion, Angelique Kerber.
The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship starts from 15th February at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium. The tournament concludes on 27th February with the winners taking home US$1,928,340 (men) and US$2,000,000 (women). The tournament will see some lively tennis action and is one of the reasons to visit Dubai in the month of February, among others.
