Jebel Jais : A fun-filled Road trip
Who doesn’t like a good ole’ road trip with friends and some good music? One of the best ways to bond and unwind, road trips are fast gaining popularity among today’s generation. The Jabal Jais mountain road provides a fantastic opportunity to road trip enthusiasts who will surely love gliding along its neat curves, treating themselves to breath-taking views.
Jabal Al Jais Mountain
Standing tall at 1,910 metres, Jabal Al Jais is the tallest mountain in the United Arab Emirates, and lies between the border of Oman and United Arab Emirates. The most thrilling way to reach this mighty mountain is to embark upon a road trip, off on Emirates Road towards Ras Al Khaimah (RAK). According to the estimates derived, the road has cost the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, a whopping Dh300 million!
That said, the excellent road conditions and amiable Jebel Jais weather make this road trip rather enticing. It is no surprise that even though it has only been a while that the road has been opened, it has already become quite popular amongst long-boarders, sightseers and enthusiastic drivers. There are a good number of viewing points along the way that are worth pausing at – do make it a point to stop by and click some interesting pictures!
Once at the top, the views are simply breath-taking! The backdrop, the orange rays of the setting Sun (if you reach there are dusk, that is!) and the shimmering lights of RAK, together conjure a sight that would surely mesmerize you!

Jebel Jais Temperature
Beware, since temperatures in Jabal al Jais can fall down to as low as -3 degrees Celsius in winters and so visitors are recommended to be adequately stocked. Plans of building a hotel, a cable car, a golf course, a paragliding launch ramp, and a ski slope are still under construction. Remember that there are no restaurants, gas stations, and toilets for miles altogether, and absolutely nothing at all when you reach the top. So, it is best that you tank up in Ras Al Khaimah, and carry sufficient water and snacks.
Also, make sure that you carry some sort of mattress or something similar, and be tolerant of hordes of picnickers and shutterbugs who are as enthusiastic as you! Weekends tend to get a little cramped up and parking can become a pain, so yes, plan well!
Rest assured, the trip is well worth the effort.
There are also quite a few places you can see while you take this trip to Jabal Jais, such as, Ras Al Khaimah’s National Museum, Tower Links Golf Club, the Khatt Springs, and more!
