Those of you who’ve always wished to experience a modern journey on the famous ‘Titanic’ will soon be able to do just that with the long-awaited Titanic II set to set sail as early as 2022!

The mythos of the RMS Titanic has been something that’s remained in the global consciousness ever since we saw the fresh faced, blue eyed young man that was Leo DiCaprio hold a gorgeous Kate Winslet’s arms aloft on top of the sun-soaked deck of the legendary vessel in James Cameron’s cinematic magnum opus.

The timeless tale of two star-crossed lovers brought together by fate only to be separated by disaster stirred the hearts and souls of countless cinema goers and has captivated individuals across generations in the time since the movies initial release.  It also drew renewed attention to what is still one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in recorded history.

Titanic II is the somewhat contentious brainchild of Australian businessmen and politician Clive Palmer.  The ship was first announced in 2012 amid much furor but was put on hold in 2015 due to a financial dispute with the Chinese government. In September of this year however Palmer definitively stated that work has recommenced and that he expects the ship to be completed by the year 2022!

The vessel is being designed to be an almost exact replica of the original RMS Titanic, albeit with improved structural designs and numerous modern safety features including state of the art navigation and collision detection systems that have become commonplace in the years following the tragedy.

The ship will have a total of nine decks with 835 individual cabins and will be able to accommodate a total of 2435 passengers. The interior will have all the vintage trappings made famous in the movie including the unforgettable grand staircase.

Titanic II is reportedly also going to follow a similar travel path to its predecessor and will carry passengers from Southampton, United Kingdom to New York in addition to making appearances at famous ports across the world. The vessel’s maiden voyage however is going to travel from our very own Dubai to New York City!

While 2022 is admittedly a long way away and the project still has a way to go before it is anywhere near completed, Titanic II promises to be a unique experience that aims at fulfilling the aspirations of the original ship while also paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

We’ll be keeping an eye on further developments as they reach us!
