Oman Oil and Gas Exhibition Centre: Overview
The Oman Oil and Gas Exhibition Centre – Oman officially opened its doors to the public in the year 1979, and became a favorite haunt for tourists and locals alike. It closed for renovations, and reopened in November 1995, in order to coincide with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of King Sultan Qaboos bin Said’s reign.
It offers visitors a chance to experience for themselves an interactive journey that takes them through various stages of the discovery, extraction as well as usage of fossil fuels. There are quite a few displays and exhibits here, of which six are permanent. The permanent exhibits explain visitors how natural gas as well as crude oil are formed under the ground (from multiple layers of organic matter). These layers, found in the lakes and oceans, were formed years ago and the exhibits help visitors to understand how this material is brought to the surface, delivered to their respective processing facilities and what the end products finally look like and what they are used for. These are by no means boring, silent display! In fact, these are interactive exhibits and all of them have a separate theme.
