It operates with MCT as its IATA code and OOMS as its ICAO code, and serves not just Muscat but also the other nearby areas. The airport is located 32 kms away from the heart of the city, and is well connected through a variety of local transport such as buses, taxis, shared transfers and airport shuttles. The airport is a major hub for airlines such as Oman Air and SalamAir.
There are two runways at the airport, and both of them are made of asphalt. Covering an area of 21 sq kms, the airport has only one terminal.
