Galway Airport, a civilian airport, is owned by Galway County Council and operated by Carnmore Aviation Ltd. It is located a little more than 7 kilometers away from the town of Carnmore, in Galway City of Ireland. Although a sizable airport, it has not witnessed any scheduled regular flights from the end of 2011, when Aer Arann ceased any and all commericla operations at the airport. The airport is also not very well connected to the city center and passengers need to bring their private vehicles or hire taxis for reaching the airport. The airport is located at an elevation of 81 feet above mean sea level, and has single asphalt designated runway that measures a mere 4,230 feet in length. The short size of the runway is the reason that Galway Airport does not handle any jet airliners, and is instead is serviced by small executive jets and turboprop aircrafts only. The airport reopened in the end of 2014, but is currently only providing private aviation services, which include private aircrafts and charter flights. The airport is up for undergoing a slew of developmental projects and expansion plans are already underway to reopen it and restart all regular operations. However, flights to Galway Airport can be accessed from London, Manchester and Edinburg.
