Tribhuvan International Airport is the largest and only international airport in Nepal where all Kathmandu flights land. Located in Kathmandu Valley, six kilometres away from the city centre, the airport serves as a hub for airlines like Buddha Air, Nepal Airlines, Saurya Airlines, Simrik Airlines, Sita Air, Tara Air, and Yeti Airlines. Tribhuvan International Airport was originally named Gauchaur Airport, after the area of Kathmandu where it was situated. It was inaugurated in 1955 by King Mahendra, and renamed in 1964. About 30 international airlines connect Nepal to destinations in Asia and the Middle East, and most of these international flights arrive from places like Qatar, India and Bangkok.
