Monarchy and hereditary went hand in hand in the early days of Chinese monarchy. The Qin Dynasty unwittingly laid the foundation for modern China by conquering many states and forming a massive empire. The last of the dynasty rulers were uprooted in the year 1911 by the Republic of China. They maintained their hold until 1949. It was in the same eventful year that the Communist Party took over the reins and changed China’s wavering course to a definite direction.
More than 300 languages are spoken in China. Mandarin is spoken by almost 70% of the population. The other major languages commonly spoken include Hakka, Gan, Xiang, Yue and Wu.
Rice is a popular part of the diet in China, while pork is also largely consumed and it accounts for about three quarters of the meat that the locals eat. The use of indigenous spices play an integral part in the Chinese cuisines.
The summers are dry while it rains aplenty in the monsoon season. The temperature differences during the warmer and colder months is drastic, courtesy China’s altering terrain. The three main religions of the country are Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism.
