In the 17th century Britain and France, both tried to take control over Senegal, finally France usurped control over the territory. It was only in 1960 that Senegal gained independence from France.
Islam dominates the region with 92 percent of its population being Muslims. The remaining inhabitants follow their ancient indigenous faiths. The nation experiences a pleasant tropical climate with temperature varying between 26 and 30 degree celsius throughout the year. Although, French is the official language here Fula, Mandinka and Wolof Malinke are the native languages that are widely spoken here.
The beaches of Yoff and N’Gor alongwith the glitzy nightlife of Ile de Goree are a massive tourist attraction.
