Nepal Tour Packages
Nepal is a tiny, mystical, mountain nation wedged away in the Himalayas between the Republic of India on its east, south and west, and the Autonomous Region of Tibet on its north. Officially known to be the highest country in the world, Nepal is also referred to as the “roof of the world” and boasts of being home to 8 of the world’s 10 highest peaks, including Mt. Everest, the tallest peak in the world. A land speckled with snow-clad peaks, rugged trails, dramatic gorges and national parks, and some incredible mountain scenery, the mystical allure of Nepal is hard to resist.
The kingdom of Nepal was established in 1768 by Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified numerous small neighbouring kingdoms in the Himalayas. Shah further wanted to expand his kingdom into Tibet, but his attempts were thwarted by the Chinese, resulting into the Sino-Nepalese War (1788-1792). Nepal then went to war with Britain over disputed borders with India (1815-16). From 1846 to 1951, Nepal was ruled by the Rana Family. In 1951, all the power was vested with the king and Nepal became a constitutional monarchy. Nepal was finally declared as a federal parliamentary republic in May 2008.
Hinduism is the majority religion of Nepal, with almost 85% of the population affiliating with it. The remainder of the population is made up of Buddhists and Muslims. Nepal’s official language is Nepali, however, numerous other dialects are also spoken including Maithili, Bhojpuri, Tharu, Tamang and more. The climate in Nepal varies from extreme winters and cool summers in the north, to mild winters and subtropical summers in the south. Kathmandu is the capital and largest city of Nepal.
