A popular resort and port city in Sri Lanka, Trincomalee is all sugary beaches, turquoise sea, foamy waves, and smiling locals. The small cliffs, lush green with vegetation, are scraggly enough to make you feel as if you are on untouched land; as if no other foot has trodden these paths before. There is so much to do here, and yet you might feel like never getting away from the shore, and never want to leave the harbor. Fort Frederick should not be given a miss, in fact it is the first place that tourists tend to rush to. And for the religious minded, Kandasamy Kovil Temple is a must. The Manayaweli Cove is a fishing beach, where you can see the fishermen haul in their catch of the day. Also, visit St. Mary’s Cathedral, which is an 18th century building that is extremely attractive to look at. There are also several great cafés and restaurants to round off the evenings at, and enjoy some really delicious local cuisine. Accommodation can be booked on the spot since there are many hotels in Trincomalee; however it would be safer to reach with advance reservations.
Chaaya Blu is a popular hotel in Trincomalee, and offers affordable tariffs. With a swimming pool and beautiful views, this place is a steal for sure. The Aqua Hotel is another great choice for bakcpackers.
