Things to Do in Kokkola

  • Kokkola loves its festivals. Throughout the year, the town hosts a bunch of them like the festival of Dance in February, Spring Fish and Summer Markets, Kokkola opera summer festival, Rock festival, and many more.
  • The stone Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Kaarlela is probably one of the oldest wedding venues. It dates back to 1550 and is a famous landmark of the city. Adjacent to the church is a local history museum, a granary barn, a smoke sauna, a threshing barn, a wood-carding workshop and other such relics from the past.
  • Kokkola’s night life is active with a brilliant array of fine-dining restaurants as well as budget ones. Food festivals that take place across the year are the icing on the cake.
  • Factory outlets, antique shops and handicraft boutiques are Kokkola’s specialty. If you have an appetite to haggle, you will love it here.
  • The Ohtakari Fishing Museum is an alfresco place which displays old fishing cabins now used as summer cottages. It will give the tourist a sense of Kokkola’s idyllic scene over centuries.
  • The Tankar Island is situated 18km from the island and makes for a fun-filled day-trip for bird-watching and nature walks.
