Switzerland is blessed with immense natural beauty, nestled in the middle of European Alps and has one of the best economic, political and social parameters in the world. A country blessed with white snow peaked mountains of Alps, pristine blue waters and green meadows filled with well-maintained farms is also known for its efficient financial system, being the banked to the world. Switzerland resembles a fairy land and yet maintains a modern day outlook. Its trains and buses run on time with precision, banking systems function strongly and its beautiful farms produce the best chocolates, dairy products, and European sweets. However, the country has multiple facets; it’s one of the oldest and thriving democracies with a reputation of sworn neutrality. Multi-culturalism, effective administration, urban planning, effective use of innovation in designing and architecture makes it one of the best countries to live in. Tourism plays a key role in the country’s GDP and is often ranked among the best in the several categories. Basel, Zurich, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne and Berne has rich cultural heritages apart from pristine natural beauty and hospitality.

Known as one of the most beautiful countries in the world, Switzerland is a European country landlocked between France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. After being inhabited by the Greek, Romans, Burgundians and the Frankish Empire for centuries, the country was finally established and founded as the Swiss Confederation in 1291. 

Known for its political neutrality, the country has not been involved in any war since 1815. It has managed to maintain its neutrality throughout the two world wars and the cold wars, even after being located inside the heart of Europe. However, it still has a dynamic foreign policy and has an array of international organisations working towards world peace – the Red Cross being one such organisation. A federal republic since 1848, the Swiss government comprises of seven members who are elected by the federal assembly, with the Swiss Parliament being based in Berne.

Majority of the population speak German (64%), with French, Italian, English and Romansh being the other languages spoken by the residents. The country has a balanced mix of Roman Catholics and Protestants.
