Montenegro Tourism

One of Europe’s untouched secrets, Montenegro is a spectacular Balkan Republic located in South-eastern Europe. While it shares land borders with Croatia on the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina on the northwest, Serbia on the northeast, Kosovo on the east, and Albania on its southeast, it has a coast bordering the Adriatic Sea on its southwest. Sprinkled with crystal-clear beaches, primeval forests, rugged peaks and canyons, and stunning medieval architecture, the beauty of Montenegro is indeed beyond belief.

Montenegro’s history is lined with inhabitation and invasion by various tribes and kingdoms including the Illyrians, Greeks, Slavs and Ottomans. In 1945, post WWII, Montenegro was absorbed into Yugoslavia, and remained a part of the Social Federal Republic of Yugoslavia till the collapse of communist Yugoslavia in 1992. Post 1992, Montenegro joined Serbia, finally declaring its independence in 2006.

The major religion followed in Montenegro is Eastern Orthodox, followed by minority groups including Muslims and Roman Catholics. While Montenegrin is the official language, other languages like Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian and Albanian are also recognised. The climate in Montenegro is Mediterranean with hot, dry summers and cold winters. The inland experiences substantial snowfall.

For those interested in history and culture, there are flamboyant monasteries, elegant churches and mosques, the mosaic Roman villas, charming palazzos, and more. Adventure and sports enthusiasts can live it up by hiking, camping, mountain biking or kayaking across the rugged peaks, national parks and pristine lakes sprinkled across the country. Foodies and night revellers can get their share of hedonism from the numerous restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs. Whatever your interests might be, Montenegro has you covered.
