Zadar is located near the Adriatic Sea in Croatia. It serves as the centre of Zadar Country and the wider northern Dalmatian region. The city is a historical centre of Dalmatia as well as the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Zadar. It is located close to the islands of Ugljan and Pasman, separated by the narrow Zadar strait. It was home to the Roman Forum and gained its urban architecture or structure in Roman times, under Julius Caesar and Emperor Augustus. It is the same city that hosted the Central European Olympiad in Informatics in 1998.
