Bulgaria is slowly moving up in the preferred cities for vacation chart. It is yet to be thronged by the sea of tourists like other European countries, thus, to pique the interest of the traveller we talk about the best time to visit Bulgaria. The best months to visit the country are March to May and September to October. Here are a few pointers to consider while planning your Bulgaria trip. 

December to February (Winter Season)

For winter sports fans, December to February is the best time to visit Bulgaria. The temperature varies between 8°C to -6°C and it snows very heavily across the mountain tops. These are the best months in Bulgaria to head for the mountain slopes for skiing, especially in cities like Bansko and Razlog. The tourist footfall is at the lowest. Hotels prices are at the lowest in the entire year as well. Most of the restaurants, clubs and airlines offer good discounts. The only word of caution being some small villages shut down for any tourist activities.

March to May (Spring Season)

The best months to visit Bulgaria are between March to May. The temperature starts to increase with average day temperatures going up to maximum 23°C and night temperatures till 10°C. The coastal regions have a pleasant warm breeze blowing across the turquoise water. The snow on the mountains starts to thaw, while light rainfall keeps occurring frequently. This is the ideal time to relax on the Mediterranean beach resorts or go trekking in the national parks. The tourist footfall starts to increase from April, although it is not overwhelming. There are good offers on lodging and boarding. The spring season is the best time to visit Bulgaria if one wants to enjoy good weather as well as no crowd.  

June to August (Summer Season)

In June to August, the temperature is at its peak. It rains more often in these months. The wind blowing across the Black Sea coast is hot and humid, but relatively cooler than the inland cities. This is the reason for most of the tourists throng the coastal areas. For tourists looking for a good party place with lots of hustle and bustle, this is the best time to visit Bulgaria. The mountain tops are relatively cooler than the cities and ideal to go trekking, hiking, or camping in beautiful mountain huts in places like Rila, Pirin and other neighbouring mountains. Since the tourist footfall is the highest, so are the prices for hotels, restaurants, airlines, and other facilities for entertainment. These are also the months when most of the local cultural festivals take place in the cities. 

September to November (Autumn Season)

The autumn season turns the entire country into bronze and gold and hues of oranges due to the changing colours of the fall foliage. The temperatures start decreasing during nightfall, although the daytime temperature is still comfortably warm. By October most of the tourists leave the country as it starts getting chillier. It starts snowing in some parts of Bulgaria, although it is light. This season is the best to enjoy the onset of winters and autumn both. The prices of hotels, restaurants and other facilities are low with good offers to grab.
