Colombo Tourism

Ayubūvan! (Hello in Sinhala)

Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka reverberates in its quintessential culture and heritage. “Kolon thota” or the “port of the river Kelan”, the Sinhalese word which gave birth to the name Colombo was coined by the Portuguese when they settled in the nation back in 1505. Nestled along the western coast of the country Colombo presents itself as a city of contrasts that pulsates with cauldron of religions, races and cultures. Within its small confinements the city gives its visitors an overwhelming experience of exploring its magnificent mansions and luscious gardens to taking a ride on the tuktuk and shopping at the Pettah market. Not to speak of the sprawling golf courses, the resplendent colonial-style hotels or the grand shopping plazas sheltering world-class brands. Once in Colombo you will seem to mingle with the fine harmony between the Oriental and Occidental cultures which brings about a whole new ardor to this capital city of the island country.
