Czech Republic Tourism

A true historical gem, Czech Republic is a beautiful country located in Central Europe. Surrounded by land from all sides, this small country shares borders with Germany on its west, Poland towards the northeast, Slovakia on the southeast and Austria on its south. The Czech Republic is a parliamentary republic, with Prague being its capital and largest city.

The history of this country dates back to the 6th century that marked the arrival of the Slavs, who founded the Slavic state of Great Moravia. Then, it became the Kingdom of Bohemia (9th-16th century), until the Habsburgs came to power. Following the collapse of the Hapsburg Empire after the WWI in 1918, the country of Czechoslovakia was created. The Velvet Divorce of 1993 marked the split of the country into two distinct nations – Slovakia and Czech Republic.

Known to be one of the most scenic countries in the world, Czech Republic casts a spell on tourists with its charming castles and churches, picturesque national parks, medieval architecture, quaint towns, antique bridges, cobbled alleys and of course, its world-class beer. Even the temperate climate is very appealing.

Majority of the residents are Roman Catholics and the official language is Czech. German and English are also popular languages spoken across the country.
