Freiburg Tourism

Freiburg, lying in the wine-rich corner of the German state Baden-Wurttemberg, is a cheerful university town famous for its high standard of living and environmental practices. Situated at the foot of Black Forest’s wooded slopes and vineyards, this tourist destination is known as the ‘Jewel of the Black Forest’. Freiburg is the sunniest city in Germany receiving over 2000 hours of yearly sunshine!

When in this city, don’t miss visiting one of its “Strausse” – these are charming restaurants that pop-up on the local farms in the months from April to around October, offering delicious, organic food made from the produce of the farm and delectable wine coming directly from the vineyards nearby! One such Strausse is Griestal where you can spread yourself out on the grass or around wooden tables and benches set up, to sample some excellent, traditional German specialties like Spätzle (soft egg-noodles that are Germany's answer to pasta), Brägele (sautéed potatoes) and Flammkuchen (onions and speck with crème fraiche on a thin pizza base). Freiburg is also one of the greenest cities of Germany. When the rural area of the nearby hill is covered in snow, the trees display white blossom clouds. Keeping this in mind, for Freiburg vacation, an avid photographer must carry a camera to take remarkable shots. Located near the border of Germany, it is quite easy (and affordable) to travel from Freiburg to Switzerland and France.
