Gabala Tourism

Also known as “Qabala”, the ancient city of Gabala, that is now blended seamlessly with modernity. Gabala is one of the main tourist destinations in Azerbaijan and a popular resort hub. Around 225 kms away from Baku, this hidden gem of Azerbaijan is famous for its picturesque nature and wonderful historical monuments. Located in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus, Gabala is blessed with a varied terrain of mountains, forests, lakes and waterfalls. One of the highlights of Gabala is “Gabaland”, a famous, open-air amusement and theme park, known as the “Azerbaijani Disneyland”.

A major reason for Gabala’s increasing popularity among tourists is that it is worth visiting round the year. Spring to summer offers a pleasant and refreshing weather and scenery while winters in Gabala are equally enchanting with a serene, snowy landscape. Irrespective of the climate, Gabala offers a wide range of things to do and places to see

Located in northern Azerbaijan in the middle of the 2,500 years old historic Silk Road, Gabala is the oldest city in the country with a history dating back more than 2000 years. Before 1991, Gabala was known as Kutkashen. And it was the capital of Caucasian Albania as early as the 4th century BC. Proof for this lies in the ruins of the village of Chukhur Gabala that is around 15 kms south-west of the modern city. Gabala’s long and eventful history has put it at the crossroads of many cultures such as Turkish, Persian, Russian and Armenian, giving it a unique and diverse nature in terms of engineering, architecture, food, clothing, and even religion, where there are a majority of Muslims, most denominations of Christianity, Jews, Krishnaites, and Baha'ist minorities as well.
