Shopping In Hanoi

When it comes to shopping, you will be spoilt for choice in Hanoi. Silk, ‘Do’ paper, handicrafts, ceramics, traditional embroidery are must-buys in Hanoi and make for great souvenirs. Day as well as night street markets are one of the best places to visit to dip into the local culture of Hanoi. Those who have a good hand at bargaining can negotiate over the quoted price, with politeness and a smile.

Hang Gai Street – Known as the ‘Silk Road’ of Hanoi, Hang Gai Street is a one-stop place to buy the best silks. Scarfs, the traditional Áo Tứ Thân or “4-part dress” - all made of silk. Don’t forget to buy Ao Dai - long dress worn by the Vietnamese women, it can be tailor made as well. You can bargain and be polite, the shopkeepers are likely to give in to your request. Slippers made of silk is another hit among tourists – one of Vietnam’s famous products.

Little Hanoi – Nha Tho Street and Xuan Dieu Street are a part of the shopping area of Little Hanoi. Wealthy tourists shop for souvenirs and items for home furnishing at Xuan Dieu Street. Many top-end brands in fashion and accessories are located on this street due to its closeness to five star hotels. Art enthusiasts often visit Nha Tho Street to hunt for good stuff.

Hang Bac Street – One of the oldest streets in the city, this street is known for original silver jewelry pieces. The method for preparing these pieces is generations old and hence good quality beautiful pieces of jewelry can be found in shopping outlets on this street.

Hang Dau Street – This street is a must-visit for women. A wide variety of shoes are available here. The brands available here are locally produced and are of good quality. Fake copies of bags of well-known brands are also available on this street.

Trang Tien Plaza – Spread across three floors, this shopping arcade is known for the imported apparel, gadgets and fashion brands available here.  The wide collection of gadgets including Sony cameras helps attract a young and trendy crowd. This place features a supermarket on the top floor.

The Gourmand Shop – Located in Ly Thai To, this shop is exclusively for people with a fine taste of things. Luxury wines and food items are available here. Shoppers can indulge in gourmet cheese, quality chocolates, and wines from across the globe.

Intimex Supermarket – Gourmet retails shops like this offer good quality imported food products and wines.
