India’s climate is varied just like the country’s culture, geography, language, food, customs, and traditions. India enjoys a tropical climate with variations throughout the length and breadth of the country. The climate of India can be classified into three main season: summers, monsoon and winters. The summer season starts from March to September. These months are dry and hot, bringing soaring temperatures in majority states across the country. The average maximum temperature tends to hover around 35 to 30 degree Celsius and can reach as high as 46 degrees Celsius. The eastern parts experience humidity plus heat during the same period. The monsoon season generally starts from June to August in the north, and heavy torrential rains and humidity are a constant feature during these months. The western parts of India receive more or less scanty rainfall in these months, while the Eastern and North-Eastern regions are generally the main rain-catchment zones of the sub-continent. Down south, the monsoon turns its course and lashes the region with heavy rains in the months of October and November. The winter season starts from October to February and is dry, windy and very cold with temperatures dropping below freezing point. Down south the temperature is milder and it’s the best time to actually enjoy the region’s highlights. The country also enjoys two more seasons – Autumn (September to October) and Spring (February to March), which are mostly experienced in the northern parts.

The best time to visit Northern India is between the months of October and March. The weather is generally cold and dry, but it’s much more pleasant as compared to summers and monsoons. The hill stations of Northern India are best visited during the summer months (April to May and September to October). The months of June and July tend to bring heavy rains. South India is again, best during the months of October to March. as the temperature is pleasant and ideal for exploring the region. However, in general the best time to visit India is between the months of October to March.
