Shopping In Izmir

The big bazaar at Kemeralti is a must visit in Izmir for the numerous stores lined up on either side. If you want to get a taste of the local colour, culture and essentials, there is no better market to go to. There are shops that sell spices, flavoured tobacco and the smoke-breathing hookah. Exquisitely designed chinaware and other artifacts make for good souvenirs. The locals are used to foreign customers, and you should thus have an easy time in communicating the bargain price.

Izmir is famous for its flea markets. The famous one is the Konak Pier flea market that is located by the sea. You can shop for traditional Turkish carpets, home decors, antiques, tea and jewelry here. You can also pick up books in English-language from this historic jetty.

The Gebze Center brings in the crowds. There are different stores here catering to local customer needs as well as tourists. You will find that most international brands have their stores here. The place tends to get crowded on weekends, so shopping on a weekday is your best bet for hassle-free shopping. A combination of a mall and a market, Gebze benefits from its prime location.

Forum Mall in Barnova and Agora Shopping Centre are the upscale city shopping malls if you're looking to shop for international branded clothing. For more than a decade now, Agora has been catering to the varied needs of buyers. Over 170 national and international stores make up this shopping paradise that houses music, cosmetics, jewellery, toys, electronic goods, fashion clothing and entertainment options.
