, including the months of October, November, December and January. The temperatures are just right for travellers to explore various attractions in the city.
Fall (September to November)
Fall in Kaohsiung lasts from September to November. During this time of the year, thousands of people visit the city to experience its vibrant culture and tourist attractions. The temperatures can go as high as 32°C and as low as 21°C degrees which means no harsh weather conditions. Once in three years, this is the migration time of the Grey-faced Buzzards which is a sight to behold. September is also the month when windsurfing in Penghu starts, and the Penghu Triathlon takes place. During this time, prices for hotels may be relatively higher so plan your trip with that in mind.
Winter (December to February)
The climate in Kaohsiung is pretty cool during this time of the year with temperatures ranging from 15 to 25°C. There is some rain but overall, the weather is quite pleasant. The city of Kaohsiung welcomes a huge number of tourists, making this season one of the busiest in the city. In December, the Kaohsiung Lion Dance Competition is held which brings together participants from Taiwan, Singapore, China and Malaysia. So, fall to winter is the best time to visit Kaohsiung. Also, New Year celebration takes place during this time and the prices for accommodation are usually higher. So, planning in advance is always best.
Spring (March to May)
Spring in Kaohsiung can be a little unpredictable with sudden rains that might spoil your adventures. Temperatures during spring vary between 19°C and 31°C.
So, if you don’t mind the sudden downpour, visit the city between March and May. During this time, a few music and folk events take place, including Megaport, Neimen Song Jiang Battle Array and Mazu Pilgrimage. The Penghu Fireworks Festival, which lasts for two months, also starts in April. During these months, the hotel prices would be more affordable as compared to fall and winter seasons.
Summer (June to August)
Kaohsiung’s weather in the summer months of June to August becomes severe as the months pass. Out of the three months, June is the most bearable but in July and August, Kaohsiung experiences typhoons or tropical cyclones. Thus, exploring the city during this time is not ideal. The temperatures vary between 26°C and 35°C. However, during these months, events like Dragon Boat Festival and the famous Taipei Film Festival take place.
