How to Reach LUCERNE

The nearest airport to Lucerne is in Zurich, known as Zurich Kloten Airport. It’s the largest international airport in Switzerland and the principal hub of Swiss International Air Lines. The airport, located 13 kilometres (8 miles) north of the country’s largest city, has direct flights from a number of countries and is also well-connected to the rest of Switzerland with its surface transport links.

By Road

There is no intercity bus network in Switzerland as trains connect almost every major destinations. However, tourist coaches can be hired to reach Lucerne. You can rent a car as the roads in Switzerland are very well paved and maintained. It's just a 55 km (34 miles) drive from Zurich and about 90 km (57 miles) from Geneva. One can rent a car from several spots in these cities.

By Water

Lucerne is located at the north end of one of the busiest waterways in Switzerland, Vierwaldstättersee or ‘Lake of the Four Forest Cantons’ and it can be reached from Schwyz, Flüelen and Weggis by steamers and motor vessels, operated by Schifffahrt Vierwaldstättersee.

Getting Around in LUCERNE

Walk: The best way to explore Lucerne is to walk around as most of its interesting sites are within walking distance. 
Bikes: Lucerne is one of the premier biker-friendly cities and dedicated bike lanes are present on most secondary streets. Fore 31 CHF per day, one can rent a 24-speed, sturdily-built bicycle at the central railway station. Electric bikes can also be hired at the station.
