Macedonia Tourism

Running a varied gamut of marvellous ancient sights and lavish bustling nightlife, Macedonia is an amazing blend of partly Balkan and partly Mediterranean environment. Surrounded by land from all the sides with Serbia to its north, Albania to its west, Greece to its south and Bulgaria to its east, the nation finds its territorial region in South-eastern Europe.

History reveals the secrets of rise and fall of Roman, Byzantine and Turkish Empire since 148 B.C. Macedonian lands witnessed major division after Russo-Turkish war, which gave away a huge part of the country to Bulgaria, which further passed on to Serbs and Greeks in 1913, post Second Balkan War. After falling into the hands of different foreign rules, Macedonia finally freed itself from the clutches of its last conqueror Yugoslavia on 8th September, 1991.

The peculiar location of these lands gift them three major overlapping climatic regions; Mountainous, Mediterranean and moderately continental. 70% of the population speaks Macedonian, 21 % speaks Albanian, 3% speaks Turkish, 3% speaks Serbo-Croatian and the remainder speaks other indigenous languages. Macedonian Orthodoxy prevails as the major religion followed by the 65% population of the nation, though Christians (4%), Muslims (29%) and Jews (2%) also find their home here.

The country is small but has a wealth of natural and manmade attractions which makes is worth the visit. The cities nestled in this nation offer a trove of exciting shopping and eating options. One of the greatest attractions of Macedonia is the 66 meter tall Millennium Cross, perched on the hilltop. The country has absolutely no dearth of ancient and modern architectural marvels such as Memorial House of Mother Teresa, Church of Sveti Jovan at Kaneo and much more.  Enthralling national parks and garden-fresh wine cultivating regions nevertheless attract people from all over the world.
