Shopping In Mumbai

Mumbai offers extreme shopping experiences from the high shopping malls to the local markets where one can haggle for anything and everything.

Shopping Malls- The mall culture is slowly catching up in Mumbai with lots of them popping up in various parts of the city with a wide range of merchandise, branded outlets, cinema theatres and restaurants. The major shopping malls are Oberoi mall, Infiniti mall, R- City mall, Phoenix market city, In-orbit mall, Mega mall and High Street Phoenix.

Colaba Causeway- This is the ideal place for tourists and locals to buy souvenirs, antiques and host of other interesting items. It is located close to the Gateway of India and is one of the best places to stroll, haggle and buy interesting items. Make sure to haggle hard before settling on the price.

Fashion Street- Located near the Churchgate station, Fashion Street is the best place to buy unbranded clothing. Sharpen you bargaining skills before heading here.

Linking Road: If you have a fetish for shoes, this bustling road is a true shopper’s paradise flooded with stores selling all sorts of sandals, slippers, traditional Indian mojdi’s and more at real cheap prices. You’ll also find stores selling clothes with the latest trends and fashions. Bargain skillfully, and you’ll get any item as cheap as Rs150-300.

Crawford Market- Situated very close to the Chathrapati Shivaji Terminus, this market has a wide range of merchandise to choose from and is quite popular with the locals.

Zaveri Bazaar- This is the best place to head to if you are keen on the yellow metal and its related ones.

Chor Bazaar- This huge market has numerous shops, many alleys and is quite crowded. However, it has a wide range of merchandise on display. This is quite a popular market and a nice place to learn bargaining skills. Chor Bazaar literally translates to Thief Market.

Mumbai also has other merchandise specific markets such as Mangaldas Market (for clothing and silk), Bhuleshwar market (for fruits and vegetables), Dadar Flower market (for flowers), etc. which cater to the requirements of shoppers.

Crawford Market - is a popular spot for buying all kinds of household items, including vegetables and poultry. It’s a historic landmark in the city and has been the main wholesale market in Mumbai for decades after decades.

Books - Mumbai has a number of old bookstores where one can get almost every popular title available in the market as well as some old and rare stuff. If you are a bibliophile then your perfect destination should be Strand Book Stall, Kitab Khana and a few of these pre-independence era bookstores.

Music - For music lovers Rhythm House in Kala Ghoda is the ultimate destination. Here one can find a large stock of English and Indian film and music DVDs, CDs and Blue Rays. You can also come across some rare and old albums. If you want to buy some good musical instruments then century old Furtados is your best option. From different range of guitars to pianos to number of rare and uncommon musical instruments are available here.

Traditional - For ethnic products and artefacts one can visit the Bombay Store or Fab India. Both have a number of stores across Mumbai and sell ethnic wear, apparels, household and utility items and souvenirs.
