The main highlight of Tanzania tourism is the Ngorongoro National Park. The main attraction here is the thriving wildlife in the oldest, unspoilt, and unflooded Ngorongoro Crater. The walls of the crater are 2200 meters and provide unmatched views of the wildlife. The heights of Ngorongoro Crater are one of the few places in Africa where chilly nights can be experienced. The 265 sq.km crater is a mini world in its own. It has grassland, deep forest and a salt lake in the midst known as “Laka Makati”.
Although the concentration of tourist for wildlife tourism in Tanzania is the highest in Ngorongoro, however, the chances of viewing the endangered black rhino, cheetahs, the black-maned lions, flamingos, the grazers, and other predators are much higher than any other parts of Tanzania. The famous annual Great Migration of the animals through Ngorongoro as well.
The Masai people are the other attraction here. Although living on the outskirts of the park, they still frequent the crater for grazing their cattle and are unperturbed by the presence of the predators. Many tours are available that offer rich insights into their traditions and lives in the Ngorongoro National Park.
The best time to visit the famous Tanzania wildlife park is between June and September when the rainfall is minimum, and one can see ample wild animals frequenting the crater lake. One can also visit the historic Olduvai Gorge which has the fossils of humans aged more than 4 million years ago and is often termed as the “cradle of human civilization”.
