Getting Around in NICE

The most preferred way to explore Nice and get around the city is the tram and the bus. Visitors can also opt for taxis and Uber, though they are expensive compared to public transport.

The Nice tram is a 5-minute walk from the train station. It can take you to the most visited places in the city like the Old Town and the beach. It is a 20-minute walk to the beach where you can enjoy the views and locals of the city. The Tram line links the main bus station, train station, downtown and the university.

The next most preferred mode of transport is the bus. Nice has well-routed bus stops and has buses to all the 130 small towns around the city. You can get the tickets directly from the driver on the bus or through the automated machines. Travellers can also prefer to opt for an unlimited day ticket at the machines. The local bus network, known as the Lignes d’Azur, is the main urban transport option for locals to get to work or school. Of greater importance to tourists is the inter-urban network called the TAM, which connects Nice with other towns on the Riviera, such as Cannes, Menton and villages like Vence.

Taxis and Uber

Nice cabs and Uber are some comfortable modes of transportation in the city. Uber is available for service all around the city. This could give a leisure and comfortable tour around Nice.

Bikes are one of the cheapest modes of transportation. You can opt for a bike-sharing program in the city called Velo Bleu. You can rent bikes from any station that is located around the city.  The only difficulty in choosing this mode is that you should be able to communicate in French with the locals for easy renting and driving. Cycling enthusiasts can rent cycles to explore the city and its outskirts. Nice has a public bicycle rental system and the first 30 minutes of usage is free.
