Hola! (Hello in Spanish)

Nestled along the Andes Mountain range, Quito is the capital city of Ecuador situated at an elevation of 9,350 feet making it the highest official capital city of the world. The second most populous city in Ecuador, Quito has a strong colonial influence rendering it the cultural capital of the country. Alongwith Krakow city in Poland, the charming city centre of Quito was the first World Cultural Heritage sites declared by UNESCO. The city is popular for being a proud home to the largest, least-altered and the best preserved historic centres in the entire American continent. The historic central square or ‘Old Town’ flush with churches, theatres and history, is located at a mere 25 kilometres from the equator and the city lies on the slopes of an active volcano of the Andes, Pichincha and on the Guayllabamba river basin. It is a perfect blend of colonial and modern culture, and is also the ideal place to begin exploring Ecuador.
