How to Reach THAILAND

By Air

Thailand is seamlessly connected with most of the key countries across the planet. The major airports in Thailand are the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, and the Phuket International Airport, which connect Thailand to major hubs around the world such as London, Paris, Dubai, Tokyo, Mumbai, New Delhi, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Melbourne, Amsterdam, Singapore, and more.

There are also a few more international airports located in other Thai cities like Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, Krabi, and Hat Yai, however, these airports mainly cater to flights from countries within Southeast Asia.

By Road

One can enter Thailand by road, via Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, and Myanmar. Thailand shares six international border crossings with Cambodia. One can reach from Siem Reap to Thailand, via the temples of Angkor, within a duration of less than 3 hours.

The busiest border crossing is in Laos, at the Friendship Bridge that runs across the Mekong River, between the Lao capital of Vientiane and Nong Khai in north-east Thailand. There is also a bus service that plies between the Morning Market bus station in Vientiane and the bus station in Udod Thani, which is located in the north-eastern region of Thailand.

It is also very easy to drive to Thailand from Malaysia and Singapore. In Malaysia, the major crossings between Thailand are Sadao and Padang Besar in Songkhla province, Betong in Yala province, and Sungai Kolok in the Narathiwat province. Regular bus services run between Singapore and Thailand’s southern hub of Hat Yai.

By Rail

Thailand just has one international train service that connects the county to Butterworth (close to Penang), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Singapore. Though the tickets are cheap, the journey by train can be extremely slow and long. It will take close to 48 hours to reach Singapore from Thailand, and you’ll have to change trains twice. If you want a more luxurious option to travel, opt for the ultra-luxurious Eastern & Oriental Express, which runs along the same route, once a week.
